Temple Israel Brotherhood

Brotherhood serves Temple Israel and the Akron community through its contribution of energy and resources to promote Jewish identity, Jewish education and a positive Jewish presence.

A major program of Brotherhood is to provide ushers at all Temple services, including Shabbat and the High Holy Days.

For B’nai Mitzvah, we present kiddush and offer videotaping of services. We support religious education by administering the Herbert Herz Memorial Award.

Brotherhood sponsors speakers at Temple on sports and current issues and organizes fundraisers and outings to sporting events and social and cultural functions. Each year we sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive and participate in an interfaith dinner with St. Paul’s Church men’s Club.

In the past several years Brotherhood has underwritten the cost of the new URJ prayerbook Mishkan T’filah.  Temple families have had the opportunity to dedicate books in honor or in memory of a loved one. We have provided funds for new and replacement equipment for Temple. We work on projects around the Temple building and grounds when the need arises.

We welcome new members and offer opportunities to get involved. Monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month for dinner or on a Sunday morning for brunch.
