This week I spent much of Tuesday downtown hearing from community leaders and fellow clergy about the fear, anger, and disappointment embedded in Akron following the Jayland Walker grand jury decision. For this moment, Akron is the focal point of the racial divide in our country. Our city has been expressing great anxiety, the type of anxiety that comes with being the center of attention. Windows have been boarded up, and statements released. Being in the spotlight also offers an opportunity. This Shabbat I will address what that opportunity is for Akron and particularly for our Jewish community. Join us at 6:15 pm. I also want to point out that we are joining Reform congregations across the state in a non-partisan initiative to secure signatures for Ohioans to be able to directly vote on reproductive rights in our state. Representatives will available at Friday night services, Saturday morning Torah study, and Sunday morning religious school drop off and pick up inviting those who would like to add their signatures to this important initiative.
