Teen Programming

Continuing our teen program, Teen Night, has required all of us to have a degree of faith in each other and our teens. In the spring of 2017, the rabbi and the teens met on Wednesdays in the rabbi's office and had dinner together at the temple. The participation grew last year after the first few classes due to the teens and their parents working to get the word out that this was a meaningful time for them. We are still getting to know each other and the kids are still getting comfortable with the idea of spending time together at temple.

The rabbi will be speaking with 10th grade students about their desires for confirmation. This is also an opportunity to rewrite the traditions as we recreate our confirmation year. One option that I will be offering to the students is for confirmation to culminate in their 11th or 12th grade year rather than 10th grade. This is not only an attempt to keep our students engaged beyond 10th grade, it allows the confirmation ceremony to become what many churches refer to as a "baccalaureate" — giving us the opportunity to bless our students on the bima as they face their secular transition to adulthood.

Thank you for promoting your child's involvement at Temple Israel.  These are the years that matter most and that they will come to thank you for down the road.

Teen Trip to New York, Spring 2017

The first teen trip to NY was a success in creating memories and friendships for a lifetime.

The teens and the Rabbi left from the Akron-Canton airport.

The group attended Friday night services at a New York synagogue.

They had a chance to dress up for a night on the town at a Broadway show during their stay in New York.
